How Much Should You Spend on a Google AdWords campaign?

If you are considering promoting your practice using a Google AdWords campaign you are going to have to set a budget to determine how much you want to spend.

Like a lot of marketing programs online available it is not difficult to throw a lot of money and get very little in return.

To fully understand how to create a budget, and get real value for money, for your marketing dollar you need to answer this one question:

How much is an individual client worth to you?

If you are not sure here’s a formula that other clinicians have used with great success -

Work out the average profit per claim, and then tally the average for the number of sessions per client. Multiply the average for the number of sessions by the average profit per claim to get us the total value for the average client.

Now, you have to do is decide what is a reasonable portion of this amount to reinvest in obtaining future clients.

This figure will form the crux of your advertising budget.

Determining an amount per click to spend

Once you have your Google AdWords campaign up and running your next step is to monitor it.

Each time a new client calls your practice ask them how they heard about you. You may find that it takes on average four to six clicks before someone picks up the phone and calls. McDonalds, for example, knows that they need to reach out 7 times before someone purchases from them.

By taking the amount that you are willing to reinvest in promoting your practice, and dividing it by our worst case scenario, say six clicks, you will get to the amount you can could afford to spend per click.

This probably makes it sound far more scientific than it really is, though striking the right balance is important, and every business has to figure this out for themselves.
